Easy Guide For Connecting The Security Camera With D-Link Extender

We know you are worried about your home security. While you are planning to install anti-burglary systems, it is pertinent that you know how to keep them functional at all times. By ‘functional’, we mean not just keeping them running, but also having the knowledge of the D-Link extender setup. So, in situations where you accidentally reset your system, you can reconfigure it without waiting for someone else to come over and fix things for you.

This blog will walk you through the steps to connect your home security camera with your D-Link extender. For this particular guide, we’ll be considering a D-Link camera as our subject and will discuss the ways you can connect it to your D-Link extender.

Sync Your Camera With D-Link Extender

There is more than a single way you can connect your camera to the home network. If you are wondering why it is even required, learn that modern cameras use a network connection to function. This in turn not only helps you manage recordings virtually but also get access to the live view remotely. You can connect your security camera to the D-Link extender using-

  • WPS method
  • Using the web-based Camera setup wizard

The WPS Method

WPS refers to “Wi-Fi Protected Setup”. If your camera and the wireless extender support this function, you can use the same to connect your devices to each other. Here are some steps you can follow:

  • Plug in your devices and make sure they are powered on.
  • Press the WPS button on your security camera for about 3 seconds. You’ll notice the WPS LED to start blinking blue.
  • Within 60 seconds, press the WPS button on the wireless D-Link extender.
  • You’ll see the WPS LED blink for a while and then become solid blue. This is an indication that the devices are now in sync with each other. Your wireless camera will now reboot and connect to the D-Link extender network automatically.
  • If your extender does not have a physical WPS button, you can activate the WPS through its web interface. You can refer to the extender manual for additional details.

Using The Web-based Camera Setup Wizard

The web-based setup wizard is the simplest yet complicated method to connect your security camera with the D-Link extender. Here are some steps you can follow to configure your camera wireless settings:

  • Launch a web browser and type in the IP address of your camera in the address bar. Press Enter or click on the Go button.
  • On the next page, type in the details like the username and the password. Click on the login button. You’ll be directed to the camera setup wizard.
  • From the host of options visible on the dashboard, click on the “Setup” menu. Click on the “Wireless Setup” menu as the next step.
  • Finally, click on the “Enable” option and the “Save” button.
  • From the next screen that you see, select the D-Link extender SSID and key in the correct wireless network password in the Pre-Shared Key field.
  • There will be three choices for the security: None, WEP, WPA-PSK, and WPA2-PSK. Select the appropriate encryption method based on the one that is used by the D-Link extender.
  • Once you have made these changes, click on the “Save Settings” button.

Your wireless camera will now connect to the D-Link extender.
